چکیده

A theory of pump-probe spectroscopy is developed in which optical fields drive two-photon Raman transitions between ground states of an ensemble of three-level Λ atoms. Effects related to the recoil the atoms undergo as a result of their interactions with the fields are fully accounted for in this theory. The linear absorption coefficient of a weak probe field in the presence of two pump fields of arbitrary strength is calculated. For subrecoil cooled atoms, the spectrum consists of eight absorption lines and eight emission lines. In the limit that χ 1 ≪ χ 2 , where χ 1 and χ 2 are the Rabi frequencies of the two pump fields, one recovers the absorption spectrum for a probe field interacting with an effective two-level atom in the presence of a single pump field. However when χ 1 χ 2 , new interference effects arise that allow one to selectively turn on and off some of these recoil induced resonances.

Nonadiabatic wave packet dynamics: Experiment and theory in IBr

We present an experimental and a theoretical study of nonadiabatic wave packet dynamics in the intermediate coupling regime as exhibited by the IBr molecule. Using a femtosecond pump–probe molecular beam technique, we generated a wave packet which evolves on the electronically excited B P01 /Y (0 ) coupled states. The wave packet dynamics was detected by a time-delayed probe pulse which induced...

Femtosecond Wavepacket Spectroscopy: Influence of Temperature, Wavelength, and Pulse Duration

We discuss pump-probe signals from the wavepackets which are simultaneously generated on both the ground and excited electronic states by weak optical pulses shorter in duration than a vibrational period. A classical model of localized ground state bleaching and excited state population of the internuclear geometries where the photon energy matches the electronic energy gap predicts the pump an...
